Reed Powers Huskies Past Holy Family

PHILADELPHIA-- Tara Reed (Williamsport/Williamsport) went a combined 4-6, drove in three runs and picked up a win as a pitcher in helping the Bloomsburg University softball team to a sweep of Holy Family on Tuesday. The Huskies won game one 8-0 in five innings and 1-0 in game two.
In the opener, Reed went 3-3 and drove in two runs with a double to help the Huskies to the win. Lori Neyhard (Bloomsburg/Central Columbia) and Jenna Hampton (Catawissa/Southern Columbia) both drove in runs and the Huskies took advantage of three errors and two wild pitches to get the victory. Pitcher Shavaun Fisher (Coplay/Allentown Central Catholic) struck out six in four innings of work to earn the win.
In game two, Casey Massimini (Downingtown/Downingtown West) reached on an infield single in the top of the first, stole second and came around to score on a double by Reed. That would turn out to be the only run of the game. Reed also picked up the win in relief going the final 3 2/3 innings. Amanda Whitford (Mt. Bethel/Bangor) started and did not allow a hit, but left with two runners on and one out in the fourth inning. Reed got the final two outs of the inning and went on to hold Holy Family scoreless the rest of the way.
Bloomsburg goes to 19-3 with the wins and will host Lock Haven on Friday at 2:30 p.m.
